Most people in Kansas City know the Parade of Hearts as a public art celebration that shows off the creativity and generosity of the city and the Heartland. For this project we started with a simple idea: a heartbeat. Something steady, human, and shared. It felt like the right foundation as the city was finding its way back together after Covid.
We kept the storytelling focused on everyday Kansas Citians and what was on their minds. No scripts, no polish, just honest portraits of people talking about their hopes, wants, and dreams. Art gave us the backdrop, but the people gave it the meaning.
That heartbeat runs through the piece and ties those moments together. It reminds you that even with different stories and different lives, we still want many of the same things. The final video became a quiet reflection of a city that shows up, cares for each other, and finds connection in simple ways. Millions of voices, one community, moving in the same rhythm.
