Basketball player drives for a layup in a packed arena during a college basketball game.

adidas approached our parent company WTA, thru the Kansas Athletics NIL relationship, with the idea to create a documentary mini-series around Darryn Peterson, framing him as more than just a future star. We were tasked with capturing him at 19, caught between a childhood dream and public expectation, carrying the weight of being labeled one of basketball’s top NBA prospects while still learning who he is inside that spotlight. The solution was to build a cinematic narrative moving between present-tense intensity and early memories, pairing KU game-day access with archival texture, atmospheric sound, and Darryn’s own voice. The result is a film that feels less like a standard athlete profile and more like a portrait of pressure, ambition, and becoming. What we learned is that the strongest sports stories are not built on hype alone, but on emotional truth, revealing the inner life behind the headlines and showing how belief, vulnerability, discipline, and expectation coexist in the making of a young star.
